New Vertue Spotted – Merikala

9th July 2025

Reading time: One minute

This was a stealth Vertue 2 with no visible name anywhere but if the owner was hoping to remain under the radar then he is out of luck because I am about to blow his cover. The owner is nice chap called Paul and the boat’s name is the Finnish for “Happy Fish” which I have just Googled and it is MERIKALA. Vertue II Number 35 (Laurent Giles Design Number 718). Sorry about that – cover blown!

If your ever see a stealth Vertue reversing in a perfect straightline then it is probably Paul’s stealth Vertue because he has a very sneaky bow thruster! That is a first on me.

Merikala moored and looking good in Inverness Marina

  1. Thanks Adrian, I wondered where Merikala had got to, and it’s good to hear she’s clearly in fine fettle. She appeared in some of the early publicity about the Bosom’s range of VII’s and her sail number was V II 35. Not sure about the 718?
Are you pressing on north or over-wintering in Scotland, perhaps?
    Best wishes,
    Roger

    1. Hi Roger, Well V II 35 is certainly a better sounding number than 718. I wonder where I got that number from? The plan for Sumara is to “sail” through the canal early in August with my nephew then have a few weeks cruising with Grit and Tilman before laying up in Dunstaffnage, just north of Oban. Next year is the big push north to Scoresby Sund. Thanks for the Iceland photos! Regards, Alasdair
