25th August 2023 – Day 22

Friday
We motored towards Edinburgh Island and I spotted no more dead birds which was really good news.
26th August 2023 – Day 23
Saturday
We sailed past Edinburgh Island at 02:00 in the dark. It was a shame not to see it, being one of the only high islands on the route. To make up for it we spotted the Northern Lights for the first time. The distant islands tend to appear as if they are floating above the water.

With the NW wind the temperature had dropped to 1 degree C. By 10:00 we were passing Becher Point (just south of Lady Franklin Point) and we’re soon to turn into the wind to head up Cache Point Channel towards Dolphin and Union Straight. It was a bumpy ride so we anchored in the Lee of Camping Island at 15:30 in 3.5 m. Position N68 degrees 35.2594′ x W113 degrees 47.7318′. The holding seemed fine on a stoney sea bed.
